The Sarasvati Trio, made up of Patricia van der Sloot, Susan Bestul and Christine Kefferstan, is named after the Hindu Goddess of all arts: music, painting, sculpture, dance and writing.

The trio was formed in 2005 in Morgantown, W.Va. Some of their past performances include: a lecture recital on Mozart for the College Music Society 2006 National Conference in San Antonio, a lecture-recital on Clara Shuman's Trio at the 2007 International Conference for MTNA-Canadian Federation of Music Teachers and the Royal College of Music in Toronto. The trio was also featured guests on the 2007 Taft Museum of Art Chamber Music Series in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The violinist, van der Sloot, is a private instructor in Morgantown, W.Va. She earned both her bachelor's degree and master's degree in performance at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. before moving to Canada where she spent 13 years teaching and playing. 

Van der Sloot played as a member of the Calgary Philharmonic and Edmonton Symphony, performed and recorded for CBS with various chamber orchestras including Alberta Baroque Ensemble, Kensington Sinfonia, Edmonton Chamber Orchestra and the Arden Chamber Ensemble. She was also a member of the Rococo String Quartet.

Bestul, the cellist, is a member of the faculty at both the Fairmont State University Community Music Program as well as the WVU Community Music Program. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and continued her studies at Yale University. In addition to touring with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and Cincinnati Opera Orchestra, Bestul was a founding member of the Ancora String Quartet. A member of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, she served as its principal cellist for the "Concerts on the Square."

Kefferstan, the trio's pianist, is Professor of Piano at West Virginia University. She teaches graduate and undergraduate Piano Majors and a number of pre-college students. Kefferstan was recently featured as a solo artist at the National Institute of Culture and History in Belize City, Belize; on the Stifel Fine Arts Series, Wheeling W.Va.; the Silver Series, Plymouth, N.H.; and the Steinway Society Series in Pittsburgh, Pa. She has been recognized for her excellence in teaching by being named "Outstanding Teacher of the Year" by the Division of Music of WVU in 2001.
